A Change In Your Company’s Idea Could Mean Great Success
Being an entrepreneur is all about being able to move from one business idea to another when one simply does not work anymore. This is according to Jason Calacanis an entrepreneur and a blogger who was speaking at the Digital Life Design Conference in Munich. Calacanis is the founder of Mahalo which was launched back in May 2007. The whole idea behind the company was to beat Google and other major search engines in the search business by having human editors edit search results, human-powered search. Some seven months after the lunching the site was already receiving around 2 million visitors per month. Mahalo pages were quite impressive having an attractive layout, pictures and videos. Unfortunately Google and Bing began improving on their search engines just around that time. This consequently led to Mahalo’s growth flattening out. To cut the long story short Mahalo changed from a human-powered search to a “learn anything” site one year ago. The new site got tutorial videos that would show users how to do anything. Mahalo uploaded many videos and soon the video viewership spiked. Mahalo is not the only company that has had to change their operations to realize great success Groupon also had a pivot change and has now become a company that is globally renowned. It changed from a group action platform to a daily deals company. Flickr was once a multiplayer online game but is now a photo sharing platform. The company that had the most drastic change is Nokia which moved from making rubber boots to making mobile phones. Having trouble realizing growth? Get a change.
