Deeper Facebook- Bing Integration

December 17th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in News

In one of the several announcements that Bing made yesterday the focus was on its relationship with Facebook. The past few months have seen Bing integrate Facebook data more deeply in its search results and rankings. For instance, for some months now Bing has has been displaying the “liked” content from Facebook during a search. The “liked” content appears in a distinct content area. Now the search engine will be displaying the specific pages that a user’s Facebook friends like and they will not appear in a separate box as before but will be included as results from a regular search. The new feature which will be available to uses in the U.S only for now, has not yet been rolled out but you can get a glimpse of it on Bing’s blog post where a screen shot has been displayed. Over and above this change, Bing says that a user’s Facebook activity influences ranking on Bing and will soon lead to personalized search rankings. The downside of this is that “gaming” in social media is bound to result in clutter in the results generated by a search. The good thing though is that users have the option of turning off the inclusion of “likes”in the Bing results by disconnecting their Facebook account from Bing.
