Foodspotting’s $3 Million Richer 1st Anniversary

Foodspotting, a location based food discovery startup, will be celebrating its first anniversary on the 15th of January. Well the celebration will be all the merrier as the startup has landed $3 million in a series A funding from BlueRun Ventures. The other investors who raised $750 thousand in the seed round will also be participating in the series fund raising. Jay Jamison of BlueRun will now be joining the startup’s board. Foodspotting lets users snap up pictures of dishes and then share them with their friends.  The CEO Alexa Andrzejewski said that they chose BlueRun because of its focus and interest in the growth of the mobile space. With the funds realized from this series A, Foodspotting will bolster its presently simple food recommendation algorithm.  There will be also growth in the company’s staff as it adds seven new employees to its current seven staff members. With this growth the company plans to develop into “a smart way to get food recommendations, wherever”. The main difference between Foodspotting and other recommendation services is that their service will be beneficial to restaurant owners as users are encouraged to remain positive.  They are focused on creating a positivity culture. The company’s website now attracts over 300,000 unique visits and so far over 275,000 dishes have been foodspotted.
