Good Buy: Starting Your Own Online Media Buyer Business

February 17th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Build an Online Business

If you have been looking for an interesting sales-based work-from-home job, look no further than starting your own online media buyer business.

The job of a media buyer is to help clients place advertisements (banners, ROS, etc.) on highly trafficked websites and help drive up the client’s sales income. A media buyer must be knowledgeable on a number of levels; including being familiar with popular websites and understanding the amount of traffic that each receives.

They must be able to properly discern which website fits best with a client’s particular product, so that the advertisement does not seem out of place, thus failing to generate sales. They must be successful in choosing the right website to drive traffic to the client’s business, so that the client will return; otherwise the media buyer will soon be out of work.

It is also helpful if the media buyer can provide proof of traffic to demonstrate the success of the campaign. This may mean having the client install programming such as Google Analytics to track the amount of daily visitors during the campaign, or asking the client to set up a special phone number for that particular effort.

How does a media buyer make an income?

Well, the media buyer, for instance, may charge his client $100 to land an advertisement on a website of his choosing, while the website may only charge the media buyer $80. The $20 will then be the service fee and profit to the media buyer. If the buyer had numerous clients within a given month, they could make a nice supplemental income or even a full time income if they were super successful.

A media buyer should have a website and business card, and will need to do a considerable amount of advertising themselves to get their name out to the public. Promotion is usually the greatest challenge to getting a business off the ground.

However, if you have experience in sales, advertising or marketing, or a combination of both computer and marketing savvy, and have wanted to start your own business from home, becoming a media buyer might be just right for you!
