McDonald’s Hacked

December 22nd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in News

The past few days have seen some big company’s suffer the inconveniences caused by hackers. McDonald’s, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Walgreens all said that they had suffered from security breaches. On Monday  McDonald’s issued a statement to the effect that the e-mail service provider which is retained by the food chain’s agency Arc Worldwide, experienced a compromise of its systems by an outsider. Customers’ information such as emails, names, gender, phone contacts, date of birth and addresses were exposed.  McDonald’s however refused to reveal the identity of the e-mail services provider. The data accessed was collected on a range of sites during a promotion.  As for Chipotle Mexican Grill the company had some controversial messages put up on its Facebook page by a hacker, last week. In the Walgreens case hackers got hold of a customer’s e-mail addresses list. The company thinks that hackers could have sent clients spam that encouraged them to give out their personal information. The good thing is that other information such as prescriptions and other personal data was not leaked as it had been stored in a different database. All the affected companies are working with law enforcement authorities to get to the bottom of the problem.
